Chrom is a tanky sword-wielding infantry unit that boasts massive damage and physical survivability thanks to the combination of his high HP, the Falchion, and his Specials, Sol and Aether. Chrom's default passives revolve around physical defense, whether it's boosting allied defense with Spur Def 3, or buffing his own Def when his HP is low with Defiant Defense. Chrom is one of the few units which can choose between two default Specials, Sol and Aether. Sol has a shorter cooldown at 4, while Aether deals more damage with a cooldown of 5. However, both specials are tough to pull off due to Chrom's lackluster Spd stat, making it nearly impossible for Chrom to double-attack enemies. His weapon, the Falchion, makes Chrom excel at slaying dragonstone users, such as Tiki (Young) and Fae, as well as heal himself by 10 HP at the start of every third turn.

All of this physical bulk, high damage, and healing comes at a price, however. Chrom's Achilles' heel is his terrible Res stat and Spd, making him very vulnerable to fast Blue mages, such as Robin (M) and Linde, who completely annihilate him. In the end, Chrom is probably the worst of the group of Falchion users, lacking Lucina's Spd, Alm's superior stats, or Marth's mobility. This does not make him a bad unit at all, however, as his massive offense and physical survivability can do you well against many powerful units where others couldn't. Place him strategically, and you should be taking out anything that stands in the Exalted Prince's way!

Highlights[edit source]

Pros Cons

+ Massive Atk, the third highest in the game. He also has a 16 Mt legendary weapon to bump it up even higher.

+ High HP and great Def. He can tank lots of physical hits.

+ Great self-healing with Falchion and Sol/Aether. Falchion also stacks with Renewal via Inheritance.

- Extremely low Res. Mages of all colors can destroy him.

- Low Spd. He can hit hard, but he struggles to make followups.

- Neither of his passives are super useful.

- Can be considered the worst out of the 5 Falchion users available.

Checks & Counters[edit source]

  • Due to his low Res, most Mages can make short work of Chrom, especially Blue mages like  Icon Portrait Reinhardt.png Reinhardt,  Icon Portrait Linde.png Linde, and  Icon Portrait Delthea.png Delthea.

This build takes advantage of Chrom's impressively high base attack to maximize his effectiveness with Brave Sword+. He currently possesses the highest base attack of any red sword, at 37 with neutral IV. With Death Blow and +Atk IV he reaches 49 attack on the offensive with a brave weapon, which allows him to ORKO a good chunk of greens and even some reds.

All-Horse Counter
Click to show/hide build description
This is a build designed to be the ultimate killer of any and all horse units that get in your way, and this build could be used by other very high attack units like Cherche if a horse-killing axe is ever released. Though very expensive, this build focuses on being able to one-shot any non tank-blue cavalry unit that comes in your way. With unmerged and unbuffed, against a cavalry unit, Chrom's 57 attack from this build rockets to 85 Atk before any triangle advantage is calculated, allowing him to defeat most hosrse units, not counting in Panic Ploy which allows him to counter horse emblem even further, with whom he draws, and so your Chrom can be your ultimate anti cavalry unit for Arena Assault, or even GHB or BHBs which use many horse units.
