Maximum Score
Click to show/hide build description
This build is meant to maximize Gwendolyn's ability to be the highest scoring 3-4 star unit along with Gwendolyn. While this build is not as strong as Gwendolyn's other builds, it is able to capitalize on Gwendolyn's large bulk and low attack to create a unit that is fairly capable of supporting an Arena Bonus Unit. If Gwendolyn is an Arena Bonus Unit, or you don't care for having her support, Gwendolyn can be built to be effective in combat outside of just support as well.

This build requires the +Spd boon, as it is a superboon allowing her to reach 170 BST, which makes her the highest scoring 3-4 star available unit in the game. She needs any accompanying non-superbane so -HP or -Def' works out.

Weapon

Gwendolyn picks a Icon Class Blue Lance.png Slaying Spear+ to ensure maximum chipping potential without killing enemies, granting easy kills with bonus. In armor land, she will have effectiveness against nearly every enemy, and with Wary Fighter 3.png Wary Fighter 3, she is unable to kill them, but damages them heavily. As for the refine, def is preferred because most armors hit her def, but res is also an option

Assist: In order to maximize score, any dual rally is necessary. As a double rally+ is the highest scoring assist Gwendolyn can inherit, she uses it.

Special: In order to maximize score, Icon Skill Special.png Aether is the better pick between the 500SP skills.

A Passive

Due to Gwendolyn' high mixed bulk she can run Distant Counter.png Distant Counter well, being a strong mage counter. This also frees up one of her other passive slots to run a 200SP skill.

However, because she does not have access to a unique weapon she doesn't need a 300SP A skill for her maximum score kit, and can instead run any 240 SP passive. Brazen Atk Def 3.png Brazen Atk/Def 3 is one of the budget options, as well as Brazen Def Res 3.png Brazen Def/Res 3 for hybrid bulk.

B Passive

Like every other armor unit, Gwendolyn can run Wary Fighter 3.png Wary Fighter 3 to prevent herself from killing enemies, and also to tank more enemy attacks at her leisure. With her immense hybrid bulk, she becomes a strong wall that serves kills to the bonus quite well.

C Passive

If you are running Gwendolyn with other armor units, Armor March 3.png Armor March 3 is the best C skill for either her or her partner. If that option isn't desirable for your team composition any Drive skill or dual spur works.

Seal

If going the ploy support build, a second ploy such as Atk Ploy 3.png Atk Ploy 3 or Spd Ploy 3.png Spd Ploy 3 helps her support the team. If not going the ploy support build, any Drive is also good.

To bolster Gwendolyn's defensive potential, she can also use a Close Def 3.png Close Def 3

Gwendolyn, as a unit, can struggle to stand out from the pool or armored lances. Hardin pulls off a similar defensive statline whilst sporting better Atk and immediate access to rare and valuable skills. Effie, meanwhile, boasts significantly poorer tanking potential but has such fantastic offensive potential that she's generally a preferred option. Despite this, Gwendolyn still boasts what is arguably the best defensive statline, due to her HP and Defense being the highest in her class. The extreme conclusion of this is, therefore, to build into a formidable wall of a mixed tank, arguably the best such in the game.

Unbreakable
Click to show/hide build description
As the name suggests, this build will transform Gwendolyn into an extremely bulky enemy phase tank that is still capable of dealing a lot of damage. Being on a full armor team, specifically with Ward Armor stacking, further compounds her defensive capabilities.

IVs: A resistance boon is necessary to further reduce damage taken from mages (as well as healers and dragons). Speed is the bane of choice because it does not take away from her bulk in any way. In fact, she needs to be as slow as possible to maximize her damage.

Weapon: Gwendolyn has base 38 defense and 28 resistance (31 with the resistance boon), so Icon Class Blue Lance.png Berkut's Lance+ is taken with the resistance refinement upgrade to boost her initially unimpressive resistance. Of course, her resistance will be further increased when she is attacked.

Assist: The assist skill is a matter of preference: Icon Skill Assist.png Swap allows Gwendolyn and her allies to all stay within 2 spaces of each other (for Ward Armor stacking) and is generally easier to use, while Icon Skill Assist.png Pivot allows the player to extend the movement range of her by up to 2, as she can move 1 space and then pivot over an ally.

Special: Her special will be Icon Skill Special.png Glacies, and while that seems inferior to Ignis, Gwendolyn will actually have more resistance than defense. The resistance refinement increases her resistance to 35, and she gains another 7 when attacked, giving her 42 effective resistance.

A Passive: The A skill is relatively obvious. Distant Counter.png Distant Counter will allow Gwendolyn to counterattack any unit that attacks her, regardless of range, which is essential on an enemy phase build such as this one.

B Passive: For the B skill, take the newly revealed Vengeful Fighter 3.png Vengeful Fighter 3. While this is definitely more expensive than Quick Riposte, it has a lower threshold of 50% compared to 70%, and while above that threshold, the user has a built-in guaranteed Heavy Blade proc. Because of this, Glacies will activate every turn Gwendolyn is attacked as long as she is doubled, which she will almost always be thanks to her very low 21 speed. (Being attacked reduces the charge to 3, counterattacking with Vengeful Fighter reduces the charge to 1, getting hit by the opponent's follow-up attack reduces the charge to zero, and she can then strike back with a devastating Glacies proc.)

C Passive: To maximize her allies' bulk, take Ward Armor.png Ward Armor as the C skill. Ideally, Gwendolyn should be run alongside three other armored allies that also have Ward Armor, and with everyone staying close together, each armored unit gains a greatly appreciated 12 defense and resistance during combat.

Sacred Seal: Distant Def 3.png Distant Def 3 is the sacred seal of choice to round out the build. When attacked by a ranged unit (all of which deal magic damage except for archers and daggers), Gwendolyn will gain 6 defense and resistance during combat.

Here are Gwendolyn's stats with this build when she is attacked by a ranged unit.

Alone: 54 HP, 44 Atk, 21 Spd, 44 Def, 48 Res (38 damage Glacies)

With three armored units each with Ward Armor: 54 HP, 44 Atk, 21 Spd, 56 Def, 60 Res (48 damage Glacies)

When all is said and done, Gwendolyn can truly become nearly unbreakable with this build at its maximum potential.

A very expensive upgrade to the Adorable Wall build, but optimised for physical defense and special damage. With 50 def on all phases, an Icon Skill Special.png Ignis proc adds 40+10 damage, more than making up for her somewhat low atk. Taking into account Special Fighter 3.png Special Fighter 3 and Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3, Gwendolyn gets a guaranteed Ignis proc every enemy phase while also denying the foe their special. Her absurd physical bulk should ensure that any melee units will do very little damage, if they damage her at all, ensuring she never drops out of Special Fighter range.
