This build proposal is to help armored units on bridges or places that only one unit fits. With this build it is possible to give 10 of damage to enemies near target or heal the armored unit while boosting it's stats, and due to the unit high res you don't have to worry about mages or staff users. Note: It is better that your armored unit can boost Lucius def

With Weapon Refinery and the introduction of premium staves in update 2.0, Lucius can brandish together a simple but deadly set comprising of most of his default skills.

Lucius is the sole native Icon Class Colorless Staff.png Pain+ user that can be obtained at 5 star rarity, unlike Azama. Also unlike his fellow monk, Lucius sports a decent and certainly usable base 32 Attack, enabling him to deal damage outside of Pain's passive corrosion—while also giving him the power to actually finish off foes in emergencies, no less. To maximize Lucius's ability to wear down the opponent as well as nearby enemies, Pain+ must be refined to its Dazzling version. This variant of Pain+, together with Wrathful Staff 3.png Wrathful Staff 3 and Pain+'s ability to stack with Savage Blow 3.png Savage Blow 3, are combined to create a beautifully disgusting strategem: the ability to deal free damage and bring most of the opposition to their knees in the blink of an eye. As a note, as long as Pain+ is refined to its Dazzling version, Wrathful Staff is not actually necessary to achieve this set's goals, though it is not nearly effective without it.

The numbers almost speak for themselves: nearby enemies will take a hefty 17 damage if Lucius equips Savage Blow 3 in his C skill slot alone, and will take even more depending on the Sacred Seal version's current level. With maximum specifications, these enemies will take 24 damage, which is essentially 2/3 of a typical mage's HP and nearly half of an armored unit's. Meanwhile, the target is faced with a decently powerful magic attack that ignores weapon triangle affinities, and further suffers Pain damage if they weren't already defeated. Like most offensive healers after the update, if Lucius is supported by teammates with Reposition, he can potentially—for lack of a more defining term—cheese most matches simply by ignoring counterattacks and picking off units without worry of Vantage or other forms of reciprocation. In other words, you're looking at a free win against Armor Emblem (particularly among other teams), many of its units which have low Resistance and otherwise no defenses against magic attacks outside of Distant Counter.

There's really no need to replace Icon Skill Assist.png Martyr+. It comes naturally with Lucius's base kit, heals Lucius himself, and restores a hefty 21 HP at minimum—not counting Icon Skill Special.png Imbue, possible increases to Lucius's Attack stat, as well as sustained damage from tanking magic attacks (which Lucius can certainly do in emergencies thanks to his high Resistance). Lucius's Special slot is perfectly flexible: several suggestions include Imbue to heal a larger amount of HP in emergencies, or perhaps one of the Balms for further stat boost coverage.

Lucius's A slot is reserved for a flat stat boost. If Lucius has a speed boon, it is recommended to further amp it up with Speed Plus 3.png Speed +3 to avoid doubles from opposing mages while being able to double slower foes himself. Otherwise, Attack Plus 3.png Attack +3 is a fantastic choice for further damage and slightly adding to Martyr+ healing. If the additional damage from Savage Blow seems excessive or overkill, Lucius can opt to use another C passive skill, such as Hone Atk 3.png Hone Atk 3 to support his teammates. Alternatively, his Sacred Seal slot can instead be taken by Distant Def 3.png Distant Def 3, enabling him to go toe-to-toe with opposing magic users universally.

This build works best if you pair Lucius with someone with Reposition (especially a flier), Wings of Mercy, or a Dancer.

Pain+ does 10 extra damage to his target and everyone within 2 squares of them. Using the Wrathful Staff version increases his base damage so his target takes an even bigger hit. By allowing him to take a hit in return, however, we actually increase the healing ability of Martyr+. So the general plan is to have him go in and attack an enemy mage, as his high Res will usually allow him to survive, and then get him out with the aforementioned ally. Once he gets Miracle ready, he can do this to anyone with ranged physical damage as well.

Attack +3 increases both his Damage and Healing. Wings of Mercy 3 helps him get around to use his massive heals where they're needed. Finally, Savage Blow 3 as both his C spot and Sacred Seal turns the 10 damage to everyone within 2 squares of his target to a massive 24 damage each.

Lucius is tied among healers for the second highest base Atk of 32 (lagging behind Genny's 35) and tied for second highest base Res in the game at a whopping 35. This set aims to capitalize on Lucius's good Atk for a healer and ludicrous Res to allow him to beat any mage in the game. Even assuming the absolute worst case scenario (enemy is +4 buffed in all stats, +Atk IV, has double distant defend 3, wrazzle dazzle, and/or Threaten Res), Lucius still only loses to 11 mages. Naturally, being the worst case, this scenario is unlikely to ever happen and, with the proper set ups and buffs, Lucius is literally unstoppable when fighting enemy mages.

+Res/-Def IVs are the best choice for this set. Lucius's dreadful base Def of 13 means he should never be put in combat with physical units, and +Res increases his already absurd magic tanking.

Dazzling Pain+ is the obvious weapon of choice due to the increased availability of the Wrathful Staff B skill compared to the Dazzling Staff B skill.

Martyr+ has fantastic synergy with this set up due to it's ability to heal based on damage taken, as well as built in Live to Serve properties that keep Lucius alive and well.

The special on this set is entirely up to the needs of the team. Imbue is a fast cooldown healing boost, Heavenly Light is great for chain maps and Fury 3 heavy teams, and Miracle increases Lucius's survivability.

Atk/Res+2 is chosen for this set because it buffs both of the most important stats in Lucius's arsenal. In a budget build, Res+3 does well enough. Many builds will suggest a +Spd IV and Spd+3, but this can only take a mage counter Lucius so far without heavy investment since many high tier mages have speed reaching well into the 40s and even 50s after enemy buffs. One is better off investing in Res for a mage counter set.

Wrathful Staff 3 is the obvious choice to maximize damage. In a budget set, Wings of Mercy run with Wrathful Pain+ can also serve well to pull Lucius away from harm while also providing massive heals to nearby allies and himself.

Res Ploy 3 Since 40 Res is hard to top, this will help maximize Lucius's damage output, as well as hurt enemy skills like Iceberg and Glacies. In a budget set (or on certain maps where Ploys are unreasonable), Threaten Res can also be of help.

Atk Ploy 3 SS keeps Lucius alive longer and hurts Draconic skills. Res+3 SS can also be run if the map layout makes Ploy skills unusable.

The point of this set is obvious - make good use of double Brazen as well as a ploy of choice to patch up his average speed and blow his already good Atk and Res out of the ball park entirely. By ditching his innate Martyr+ for a different heal, he can keep himself in Brazen range while still providing support when needed. Ultimately, this set does best when tanking an initial magic foe to chip his HP to Brazen range, but an alternative could be simply ditching Dazzling, running Wrathful refine, and giving him a B slot of choice (Escape Route or WoM both work well.)
