This build aims to build Nowi into a flexible, tanky counter to Emblem Buff teams that can also stand up to non-buff teams. This build utilizes Quick Riposte as the B skill, allowing you to give her extra defense using her Sacred Seal slot.

There are two ways to implement this build. Either you can simply build her as a standalone unit, or use her as a central piece of your team. Depending on which path you decide to go will determine your IV, and Weapon Refinement.

For a standalone unit, you will want to double down on defense with +Def boon and +Def refinement for Icon Skill Weapon.png Lightning Breath+. This allows her to tank the vast majority of Red units, all variants of bow units, and a large number of lances, and even axes. Steady Breath.png Steady Breath, along with Icon Skill Special.png Bonfire, allows Nowi to one shot brave weapon users in addition to fighting against other units that are otherwise tanky.

If one desires to fully invest into Nowi, including Summoner Support, Ally Support and buffs, +Spd boon and +Spd refinement can get a lot of mileage, as it allows Nowi to escape doubles from many units that would otherwise double her.

Icon Skill Weapon.png Lightning Breath+, Nowi's native weapon, is her weapon of choice. Having built in Distant Counter in addition to being refined to hit the weaker defense stat of ranged units allows her flexibility in terms of the threats she can handle.

Icon Skill Assist.png Reposition is a standard, powerful movement tool that allows tanks to move units behind them, and then acting as a wall for them on the enemy phase, or just generally moving units around. Though, this can be changed depending on the team composition.

Icon Skill Special.png Bonfire is the staple choice for her special, as you want a 3 cooldown special ability, increased to 4 from her weapon to fully utilize this build. Alternately, a 5 Cooldown special in Icon Skill Special.png Aether can be used to allow for sustain if going the full speed build, as she will usually be able to one round enemies in two hits, and then you'll have Aether ready for the next turn.

Steady Breath.png Steady Breath allows Nowi to utilize both of her special options in a timely manner. The usual detriment of +1 Special Cooldown of Lightning Breath+ becomes a mitigated, as Bonfire will have a Cooldown of 4, allowing Nowi to use it on the 4th combat action (such as get hit, hit back, use bonfire on the second hit). Aether will have a cooldown of 6, allowing her to use it on her 4th combat action, usually right after the first kill as a player phase action or secondary enemy phase action.

Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 is an essential skill, to have, especially when not used in her Sacred Seal. Because Nowi will never have enough speed to naturally double an enemy, Quick Riposte ensures that Nowi will be able to always double enemies on the Enemy Phase. This then allows her to either use Bonfire or have Aether ready afterwards.

Panic Ploy 3.png Panic Ploy 3 is the overall most useful C skill, as even with the -HP IV she will still be able to panic all mages and most non-armored units due to having +5 HP from the ightning Breath+ refinement. This can shut down Horse, Flier, and Mage Armor Emblem teams, allowing for easy baiting of enemies that have their buffs turned into penalties. It can also be switched to another C skill such as a Hone, Spur, Smoke, or Tactic depending on team composition and matchups you run into.

Distant Def 3.png Distant Def 3 is the best Sacred Seal in terms of allowing Nowi to counter ranged threats such as Lyn, Brave Lady and blue mages. Alternatives include using Panic Ploy 3.png Panic Ploy 3 if one doesn't run the C skill, and Close Def 3.png Close Def 3 allows Nowi to better combat tanky blue and green melee units.

Overall, using this build turns Nowi into a mostly Enemy Phase unit, utilizing her impressive bulk in order to bait enemies in and easily deal with them. However, against users of Sweep weapons such as Firesweep Bow, Lance, or Dazzling Staff, she can still player phase to hit them hard and be bulky enough to deal with the Sweep user's allies.

This build aims to build Nowi into a flexible, tanky counter to Emblem Buff teams that can also stand up to non-buff teams with Quick Riposte in the Sacred Seal slot. This allows Nowi to run B skills that could better suite what you need her to do.

Guard 3.png Guard 3 becomes the optimal B skill with the implementation of the Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 Sacred Seal, especially for Arena. Because of the ubiquity of units with powerful specials or units relying on specials for damage such as Ayra, Zelgius, Lyn, and more, Guard 3.png Guard 3, allows Nowi to shut down builds either based around their specials or normal skills just by getting hit a lot. While this makes you lose access to an alternate Sacred Seal, the damage reduction from not taking a special hit usually balances out the defense loss of not using Distant Def 3.png Distant Def 3 or Close Def 3.png Close Def 3.

Another solid choice, especially if Falchions such as Alm are a problem, is to run Swordbreaker 3.png Swordbreaker 3 in order to both stop follow up attacks from faster units or just hit them during player phase. This provides resilience against special reliant swords such as Ayra and Zelgius as well, but is weaker against other special reliant units such as QP Brave Lyn.

Panic Ploy 3.png Panic Ploy 3 is the overall most useful C skill, as even with the -HP IV she will still be able to panic all mages and most non-armored units due to having +5 HP from the Icon Skill Weapon.png Lightning Breath+ refinement. With the implementation of the Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 Seal, many new options open up for Nowi's Fury builds. This build focuses on utilizing the Quick Riposte Seal, freeing up her B slot to be able to run many skills that can help her slot into any team. Depending on the IV you choose to use, your refinement will follow to double down on the effects you get.

+Atk IV and refine Nowi aims to one shot her enemies, utilizing her defensive stats to tank one hit, and then obliterate her foes on the return before taking more damage. If you use this build, you will want to have atk support such as hone, spur, or drive atk in order to help her secure kills against highly merged foes.

+Def IV and refine Nowi aims to simply be able to tank all physical threats, relying on her bulk to carry her through combat. If you use this build, you will want to have def and possibly speed support so she can take less damage. Overall, this IV is the most reliable as it generally requires the least amount of supporting buffs to get her job done.

+Spd IV and refine Nowi aims to be tanky by avoiding doubles. By doubling down on speed, Nowi can reach speed levels that allow her to marginally avoid getting double by enemies. In order to fully utilize this build, speed support (and especially Summoner Support) are extremely useful. Be careful of enemy speed buffs, as those will usually bring them to the point where you still get doubled, neutralizing the effectiveness of focusing on speed.

Icon Skill Weapon.png Lightning Breath+ is the weapon of choice, as it allows Nowi to easily deal with ranged threats.

Icon Skill Assist.png Reposition remains the premiere movement tool for tanks as you can either move units that advanced to attack back while providing them a shield, or just generally shuffle units quickly to positions they have to be in. Alternatives such as a Dual Rally can be run as a replacement if arena scoring is a concern.

Icon Skill Special.png Glimmer and Icon Skill Special.png Moonbow are the only specials Nowi can charge in a timely manner due to the cooldown increase from Icon Skill Weapon.png Lightning Breath+. Icon Skill Special.png Glimmer is better versus high speed, low res (or def if they're ranged) enemies where the increased damage can put you over the HP threshold. On the other hand, Icon Skill Special.png Moonbow is better versus highly defensive targets such as armored units, where reducing their defense actually matters.

Fury 3.png Fury 3 remains a solid choice for Nowi's A skill, as she utilizes all of the stats extremely well being a tank.

For overall use, Guard 3.png Guard 3 is the best choice for Nowi's B skill, as it allows her to completely shut down special reliant heroes such as Ayra and Zelgius. Because most units rely on Special skills to dent Nowi, Guard effectively neutralizes that threat, albeit being a fairly expensive skill to inherit. While this skill is optimal for enemy phase Nowi builds, it sacrifices potential player phase potential she can acquire. This works very well on all Nowi builds.

For budget options, Swordbreaker 3.png Swordbreaker 3 acts similarly to Guard 3.png Guard 3, allowing +Def and +Atk builds completely eliminate extremely fast sword units such as Ayra and Lucina, but cuts into her Bow killing tankiness, and is thus much more team composition reliant. This also gives Nowi a player phase against sword units, as she will always double them, making it particularly effective against Firesweep Sword builds.

This same principle can be applied to Bowbreaker 3.png Bowbreaker 3 and Lancebreaker 3.png Lancebreaker 3, allowing Nowi to specialize in eliminating one type of enemy, even on the player phase.

A final option for Nowi is to run Vantage 3.png Vantage 3 as her B skill. While this lowers Nowi's potential in her first combat, with a charged special her one shot capabilities with a precharged Icon Skill Special.png Glimmer are very high, taking out all non Firesweep, swords, bows, and red mages except for Halloween Jakob.

Her C skill is extremely flexible, and can be changed to suite your teams needs. Panic Ploy 3.png Panic Ploy 3 remains a great skill, but a Hone, Spur, or Drive all work well, depending on the rest of your build and on what your other team members want.

The crux of this build is to run the Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 Sacred Seal, allowing for Nowi to be specialized in addition to having general enemy phase potential.

This build utilizes the strengths of Nowi and the breath refinements from 2.0 on a budget, without using the Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 Sacred Seal. While the Quick Riposte Seal version has upsides in terms of B skill flexibility, running QR as a B skill gives Sacred Seal flexibility (in addition to freeing up the Sacred Seal for other units). Depending on the IV you choose to use, your refinement will follow to double down on the effects you get.

+Atk IV and refine Nowi aims to one shot her enemies, utilizing her defensive stats to tank one hit, and then obliterate her foes on the return before taking more damage. Fury 3.png Fury 3 remains a solid choice for Nowi's A skill, as she utilizes all of the stats extremely well being a tank.

Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 allows Nowi to counter attack versus all enemy types, and is the crux of enemy phase builds.

Her C skill is extremely flexible, and can be changed to suite your teams needs. Panic Ploy 3.png Panic Ploy 3 remains a great skill, but a Hone, Spur, or Drive all work well, depending on the rest of your build and on what your other team members want.

Panic Ploy 3.png Panic Ploy 3 allows Nowi to leverage her high HP to completely ruin emblem buff teams, and it also works as a powerful C skill. If one runs Panic as a C skill, Distant Def 3.png Distant Def 3 becomes the one of the best Sacred Seals to use, as it allows Nowi flexibility in how she can tank ranged threats, not relying on having the enemy be panicked. Alternately, if you are confident in your abilities to panic bow threats and neutralize their buffs, another strong option includes Close Def 3.png Close Def 3 that helps her melee fighting capabilities.

Nowi The Dragon Tank
Click to show/hide build description
This build is optimal for a dragon team consisting of an Adult Tiki, Ninian and Myrrh. In a normal sense, Adult Tiki will be doing most of your defence tanking and Nowi will be left in the more magical tanking. However, Nowi is an all-around tank and can serve both roles of up against a melee blue unit (such as Azura, Hinoka or Nephenee) that Adult Tiki won't be able to take on. The use of Fury 3.png Fury 3 allows for her to get to a total defence stat of 42 and a total resistance stat of 39 when paired with Ninian's Fortify Dragons.png Fortify Dragons The use of Icon Skill Special.png Ignis or Icon Skill Special.png Bonfire makes use of her great defensive stat too. Vantage 3.png Vantage 3 allows her to take some damage from Fury 3.png Fury 3 and put in a small punch if she needs to which may allow her to survive some situations. The use of Ward Dragons.png Ward Dragons helps if you don't have a good MGrima or don't want to use it due to the low mobility. This will help your Adult Tiki reach a whopping 44 defence when paired with Ninian's Fortify Dragons.png Fortify Dragons and Nowi's Ward Dragons.png Ward Dragons at neutral def IVs. If you don't have a spare MGrima, then Threaten Res 3.png Threaten Res 3 is always a cheap option as Nowi comes naturally equipped with it. This'll help if the unit you're attacking has a range of 1 and so won't be benefited by the Icon Skill Weapon.png Lightning Breath+ refinement. Finally, any good team should have a Icon Skill Assist.png Reposition unit or three. Icon Skill Assist.png Reposition is possibly the best assist in the game and allows for quick replacement of units for better reach and security with retreating. This allows Nowi to take hits for your weaker units and her natural distant counter makes it so she can hit all units, regardless of range. The use of Distant Def 3.png Distant Def 3 ensures that mages will not be able to hit her for a lot of damage but Close Def 3.png Close Def 3 is also a viable option if you wish for a more physical approach

Hybrid Manakete
Click to show/hide build description
This build is meant to turn Nowi into a hybrid tank, while still having respectable attack and speed. It is recommended to only opt for this build if you have Summoner Support and Ally Support at S rank on Nowi, since this build requires investment in all of her stats. If you're missing out on Steady Breath.png Steady Breath, this is a worthwhile build to consider, although it will never supercede the SB build. Preferred IVs can be anything, as long as the bane is -HP, while the best boon is +SPD.

Icon Skill Weapon.png Lightning Breath+ with SPD refine stands as the preferred option, a way to counter at any distance while keeping the A slot free, and helping Nowi avoid doubles from the majority of units, when coupled with other spd boosts. A +spd Nowi with the weapon, summoner and ally support, and hone speed reaches 41 speed unmerged.

Icon Skill Special.png Glimmer is the optimal choice of special for this build. Since it doesn't use SB, Glimmer has the same cooldown as Bonfire would on that build, but its' damage is ever similar to what Bonfire would do, considering most melee units have subpar RES, and ranged units have to tank Nowi's hits using their weakest defensive stat. Paired with this, Distant Def 3.png Distant Def 3 and Close Def 3.png Close Def 3 serve to amplify Nowi's ability to tank all kinds of encounters, and serves especially well to deal with brave weapon users like Reinhardt, which she can kill on Enemy Phase, even if behind on merges. Since most enemies will survive her first attack if they have any kind of bulk, Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 is necessary to finish the deal and avoid Wings of Mercy procs on the enemy team, while Panic Ploy 3.png Panic Ploy 3 has its' uses in amplying her ability to deal with heavily buffed enemies, like blade mages and horses.

Who's afraid of falchion
Click to show/hide build description
This build is built with only one thing in mind, countering falchion user. As such, this build should only be use in a full dragon emblem team. Otherwise it is a complete waste of a perfectly good nowi. It should also be noted that since there's no actual way to nullify the effective against dragon of falchion. This build can also be viewed as an extream sword counter build. Lastly please excuse my horrendous grammar which will be inevitable.

Icon Skill Weapon.png Water Breath+ is the perfered weapon here, instead of the beloved Icon Skill Weapon.png Lightning Breath+. Because of the fact that it has higher might and has Steady Stance 2.png Steady Stance 2 built in. And of course, a defence refinement is a must.

For assist, either Icon Skill Assist.png Swap or good ol'Icon Skill Assist.png Reposition work here. It's up to your preference really.

Since the build is about stacking as much defence buff as possible. A defence relying special such as Icon Skill Special.png Bonfire or Icon Skill Special.png Ignis works here. And because we're not running lightning breath here, there's no CD penalty either.

There's a lot of choice for the A skill. I recommend Close Def 3.png Close Def 3 for maximum defence, but it is quite expensive. You can instead opt for Triangle Adept 3.png Triangle Adept 3. This has the advantage of getting to deal more damage back, but at the same time naga can probably OHKO her. Other dragon staple can also work here Fury 3.png Fury 3,Steady Breath.png Steady Breath the works.

For B skill Swordbreaker 3.png Swordbreaker 3 is an obvious choice here. It will help nowi against the quicker sword wielder, namely Lucina and Alm. This will have a pleasant side effect of shuting down someone like Ayara and Mia too. Alternative for this skill include, again, the dragon staple of either Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 or Vantage 3.png Vantage 3.

It's completely up to you what to put in to the C slot. Threaten Res 3.png Threaten Res 3,Threaten Atk 3.png Threaten Atk 3,Ward Dragons.png Ward Dragons,Panic Ploy 3.png Panic Ploy 3 or Infantry Pulse 3.png Infantry Pulse 3 anything works here depending on your team.

The choice for the Sacred Seal is very interesting. Phantom Spd 3.png Phantom Spd 3 is an fairly unpopular seal due to how hard to utilize it, but in this case it can save her life against a Watersweep 3.png Watersweep 3 user, but since those are fairly rare. You can instead go for either Quick Riposte 3.png Quick Riposte 3 or Close Def 3.png Close Def 3 instead.
