Moving Hero pages[]

Hey all, I'm thinking of moving the Hero pages. Most of the information regarding this can be read here. I'll shoulder the entire burden of doing this, but I can't do it alone, there are some things I'll need help with, since some pages are edit restricted, and I also need help specifically with modifying the cargo queries into templates and modules to use {{MF}}. If anyone could help me with these that'd be great. Since this is a huge task, I wonder if there is a way to make gamepedia create a backup in case a problem too big we can't solve quickly appears? Just in case, we should coordinate this huge move and plan a time when most of us are available to fix any problems that happen during the move.

But most importantly, before any of that happens we should all be in agreement with the Hero page name format. Which one do you prefer? If anyone has any disagreements, voice them here, or if you are in completely in agreement, that'd also be great to voice. If you're neither, that's fine as well. Endilyn (talk) 07:21, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I agree that using the complete unit names Hero: Title would be better, long-term. I'm too busy with real life lately to be able to help with the heavy lifting, but I might be able to help fix some Cargo/Template issues after the fact. Saschb (talk) 00:00, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
I am also okay with using the Hero: Title format. I know nothing about Cargo so I won't be much help with that, but I can happily do all the manual stuff. Sadly we seem to operate on different time zones so there might be some trouble with coordination. Valexiv (talk) 11:25, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm generally okay with the proposal put forth. But for me, user experience is of utmost importance to this wiki, and takes priority over any administrative or technical concerns. So it's important that this move does not impact a user's ability to quickly and easily find information, especially through search. Redirects can help to an extent, but we will also want to add user-friendly disambiguation pages on all the base hero name urls, as well as a visual disambiguation header on the top of every hero page to allow people to easily navigate between different versions of a hero. I can help with those.
I'll grant you additional roles so you'll have the necessary permissions. It's unlikely we can get Gamepedia to prep a backup specifically for this, but I'll try asking to see anyway. I'll leave the schedule up to you, since you're taking point. And I'd strongly recommend joining our Discord server at least for this move to make it much easier to coordinate with us. Teg (talk) 18:19, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
Ah, no worries about the user-friendly disambiguation page, I forgot to mention it but I also plan to do that, using {{CharacterDisambiguation}}. This template automatically generates a disambiguation page for a character, so it'll be easy to create those, since we just need to copy and paste the template afterwards (when no name parameter is specified it automatically uses the page name). Check out a live example of this template being used at Robin and Tiki. The Hero pages use {{CharacterAbout}} at the top as a text version, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "visual disambiguation header", but the template can always be edited to include that. Since we're all in agreement with this I've decided to start doing the "safe" steps for now, the rest of the schedule for the "dangerous" stuff is still up in the air, but generally I have the most free time available on Sundays and Fridays. Since we work in different timezones I'll just have to start the process a little closer to the end of my time and the start of others. Endilyn (talk) 03:12, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

State of the Wiki[]

Just wanted to update you on some Wiki administrative things moving forward. Previously, the core group of Wiki Editors who followed the FEH updates for the Wiki were Saschb, Valexiv, and I. As you've probably noticed, both Saschb and I have not had much activity the past several weeks due to real life matters / waning interest in the game. Valexiv also announced yesterday in the Discord chat that he will no longer be editing the Wiki due to lack of interest in the game as well.

This leaves a hole in who will be updating the Wiki pages in a timely and correct manner moving forward, especially during update days / when new heroes are revealed. I'm currently working on measures to "pass on the torch" to new contributors. If I could get your help for some of these tasks as well, that would be much appreciated.

These measures include:

  • Adding more Boilerplate pages as a source for new contributors to source.
  • Ideally create more solid documentation on the Wiki so that other contributors may also begin to help without needing hands to be held. Something like an updated version of the Update Day Checklist, or just a general To-Do List would probably suffice.
  • Teaching a few trusted users on the Discord who have helped with the Wiki here and there but are not familiar with the specific technical workings. These users will probably become new moderators on the Wiki. I will be personally showing them the ropes / holding video sessions with them to expedite the learning process, since most of them have no clue where to start.
  • If you're interested, I will ask Teg about promoting you to Administrator.
  • I plan on publicly announcing via Reddit/Discord regarding the state of the Wiki once these measures are in place (or at least in a more solid state to act as a foothold for new contributors) and seeing if we can garner more help from the community as well. I also want to make sure the new moderators get settled in first before "opening the floodgates".

If you can think of any other methods to help out new contributors, feel free to create them as you see fit. Let me know if you have any further questions / comments.

Also, I saw your message on my talk page regarding my code which turns the datamined quote files into the Hero quote Wikipage. I'll leave a message later with the source code when I can since I don't currently have access to the device where that code is. Elaeagnifolia (talk) 21:11, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

The wiki is indeed in a perilous state, after Valexiv changed his status to "former wiki editor" I decided to create some tutorials at Fire Emblem Heroes Wiki:Tutorials (currently a work in progress) for other editors to use. Ideally the documentation there should be straightforward enough for editors to find the specific topic they are looking for with ease. Please feel free to expand it (even with just placeholders that will be filled later), there are probably some things I am missing or forgetting. Unfortunately after his absence many pages will lack content or be incomplete (such as the many many enemy info tables), since I usually do not bother adding data or content that does not interest me, but I will go through with the effort to leave placeholders for others.

I am also interested in obtaining sysop functions, there needs to be at least one sysop for the next group of people since that is the only role that can edit mediawiki namespace pages or (re)create cargo pages. If it is not me, it should be someone else at least.

Sidenote: Is the {{BASEPAGENAME}} and such in the stats template and hero page tabs still used? It seems to be a leftover from SMW issues. Endilyn (talk) 22:31, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

Quote File Format[]

Posted this on the Discord, but also posting this here for ease of reference.

MID_REFLET_F_LEGEND01_VOICE18: Yes.

MID_REFLET_F_LEGEND01_VOICE20: Choose.

Note that the beginning of each line has MID_REFLET_F_LEGEND01_ followed by additional text which essentially acts as a "descriptor" of sorts for the quote that follows. The following table shows the Wiki equivalent to the descriptors. If there is an order (eg. VOICE05, VOICE06, VOICE07, VOICE08 for Special triggers), then keep the order because this will match up with the renamed quote audio WAVs. This supports all hero quote files (including the JP character text quote files) but not enemies (eg. Veronica, Bruno, etc.)

In response to what you said to me…[]

Then you fix that problem if you have one with mine, thanks a bunch. --Thebreakingbenny (talk) 08:59, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Veronica: Brave Princess Turn Action Japaneese quote 4[]

"MAP_4 is actually a duplicate that really exists in the files and the duplication will be represented here as well" I thought the duplication was an error with the page, not the game itself. (My bad). I wonder if it will be fixed in the future? -Markfeh (talk) 04:10, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

It seems to be the case for last years Brave Heroes as well, at least with Lyn and Dorcas, with the extra quote being localization only, and a duplicate audio file being downloaded in the Japanese version. From this, I think it most likely will not be fixed in the future. It seems odd to think that this was intentional, but it appears to be so far. Endilyn (talk) 06:19, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Attack/Damage Quotes[]

Thanks for catching my mistake [1]. I was going through and editing quotes pages. I noticed a lot of incorrect attack and/or damage quotes when I listened to them, and I guess I forgot to listen to Julius's. I'll go back through my edits and revert any other mistakes I may have made along the way. -Markfeh (talk) 23:46, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

No problem, your quote pages are helpful and thank you for checking them. As you check them, can you remove them from this list (Fire Emblem Heroes Wiki:To-do list/List of quotes that need manual checking)? It would help keep track of some things better. Once that list is empty I can remove the quote checking task from the to-do list. Endilyn (talk) 00:04, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
I've checked all of the quotes pages off of the list (Fire Emblem Heroes Wiki:To-do list/List of quotes that need manual checking). Feel free to remove the quote checking task from the to-do list. -Markfeh (talk) 21:46, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

My edit on Laegjarn: Sheathed Steel[]

Why did you revert my edit on Laegjarn: Sheathed Steel? She is a story unit and enemy on every map she appears in so far. Markfeh (talk) 01:22, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

On the definitions in Template:Hero Infobox#Properties, "story" is specifically meant to be used for units that cannot be inherited, such as Alfonse: Prince of Askr. It could probably be more appropriately named, but that is what it is being used for. As for "enemy", the page is no longer about the enemy unit as the playable stats and skills are for the playable version, with the only remnant in the page being the enemy stats which will be stored elsewhere. I also don't see why you would want to be adding in the "enemy" property since it is not displayed on the wiki and is entirely for automation purposes, which will break when Laegjarn is released since many queries will then exclude her. Endilyn (talk) 01:30, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for all of the information. I'm still relatively new to editing on this Wiki and don't quite understand how all the different template coding works. Markfeh (talk) 01:37, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Strategy Pages[]

Just curious, is there a reason why Heroes' strategy pages don't show up as a tab on Template:HeroPage Tabs? Markfeh (talk) 02:12, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Unlinking the strategy pages was a soft way of deleting strategy pages without actually going through the effort of deleting each one. They will be deleted eventually. Endilyn (talk) 03:16, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
That makes sense, but why are we deleting the strategy pages? Is it because they haven't been used much, or is there some other reason? Markfeh (talk) 04:10, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
Yes, that is the case. Other reasons include being subjective opinion pages with outdated text. Endilyn (talk) 05:35, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

I know that all hero strategy pages have been deleted, but they still show up here and they all link to the main page. Just letting you know, in case you want to look into it. Markfeh (talk) 23:11, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Torrent Dance 2 and 3 files[]

What is it about File:Torrent Dance 2.png and File:Torrent Dance 3.png that needs improving?(The Reupload template doesn't specify what needs to be improved) Markfeh (talk) 02:53, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

Since these are reconstructions of what would be the icons and not the actual icons, if the Torrent Dances ever becomes available they'll need to be replaced with the actual icons in case they differ. The reupload template is just there to prevent someone from forgetting that once the actual icons are released, alternatively the images could just be deleted to solve that problem instead of the reupload template. Endilyn (talk) 02:57, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
I got the versions I uploaded from the Preforming Arts datamine. Did the dataminer reconstruct them when they uploaded the datamine or not. Markfeh (talk) 03:05, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
They do not exist in the game files. The icons are blank where they would exist in the sprite sheet. No skill data, or skill descriptions exist for these skills either. They probably reconstructed them. Endilyn (talk) 03:14, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
In that case should we delete the icons and the skill descriptions of Torrent Dance 2 and 3 (and reupload the images/re-add the descriptions when they are added to the game) to avoid further confusion, or just leave them as is? Markfeh (talk) 03:24, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
I think that's a good idea. Endilyn (talk) 05:11, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

Colorless bow[]

I tried to move the page before copy and pasting. I got a warning saying "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reason: A page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid. Please choose another name." Markfeh (talk) 04:24, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

  • If something similar happens again the future, use Template:Move to notify someone with the rights to delete pages to move it for you, I'll be happy to help. Endilyn (talk) 04:41, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
    • Alright, thanks for letting me know. I'll make sure to do so in the future. Markfeh (talk) 05:50, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Template:StructureType Infobox[]

The in-game description structure types aren't showing up in the description section of Template:StructureType Infobox. Can you add the in-game descriptions to the cargo table so that they will show up when using Template:StructureType Infobox? Markfeh (talk) 21:50, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
