Description | Grants Res+3. If foe initiates combat or if unit's HP < 100% at start of combat, inflicts Atk/Def-6 on foe during combat, and if unit deals damage to foe during combat, restores 7 HP to unit. (Triggers even if 0 damage is dealt.) |
Notes[ | ]
- "If foe initiates combat" means if a foe triggers combat during the enemy phase. The unit being initiated upon does not need to deal damage, nor be able to counterattack.
- However, if the effect is applied after combat, the unit being initiated upon must also survive it to fulfill this condition.
- The stat decrease that can be applied by Virtuous Tyrfing is considered a temporary debuff.
- Virtuous Tyrfing's healing effect will not work if the user is prevented from recovering HP during combat from effects such as Fatal Smoke 4, Incurable+, or Deep Wounds, unless the user has a skill that reduces the effect of Deep Wounds such as Special Fighter 4.
Upgrades[ | ]
Can be upgraded in the Weapon Refinery. For a list of other such weapons, see list of upgradable weapons.
Notes[ | ]
- The damage boosting effect of refined Virtuous Tyrfing ignores the foe's Def or Res when calculating the damage boost, and can be reduced by damage reduction effects such as Armored Beacon, Dragon Wall 3, and Dodge.
- A foe equipped with Embla's Ward, Múspellflame, Niðavellir Axiom, or Gold Perfection will neutralize all sources of damage during combat except the minimum 1 damage from Umbra Burst weapons.
- For more information, see Damage calculation.
- Effects that are disabled by refined Virtuous Tyrfing:
- Effects active on the foe that prevent the unit's counterattack such as Windsweep 3 and Dazzling Shift.
- Effects active on the user that prevent their counterattack, such as Firesweep S+ and Counterattacks disrupted.
- "If unit initiates combat" means if the user starts combat during the player phase. The unit does not need to deal damage, nor be the first to attack.
- However, if the effect is applied after combat, the unit must also survive it to fulfill this condition.
- The damage-reduction is calculated after offensive Specials and damage boosting effects such as Arcane Lúin and Dominance.
- If a skill such as Miracle or Everliving Domain can trigger, the damage-reduction effect will not trigger and the user will still survive with only 1 HP.
- Percentage-based damage-reduction effects stack multiplicatively, unlike interactions related to the weapon-triangle, such as Triangle Adept and the weapon-triangle advantage boost.
- For example, if both Buffer 4 and Godlike Reflexes activate, the maximum total damage-reduction is 70% instead of 90%, since the two skills reduce the damage to (1 − 50%) × (1 − 40%) = 30% of the original damage.
- For more information, see Damage calculation.

- The unit with Virtuous Tyrfing only survives a single attack, so a second attack will still be lethal.
- If unit is under 50% HP and is hit with a lethal attack, Virtuous Tyrfing will not trigger.
- Virtuous Tyrfing stacks with other effects that allow a unit to survive with 1 HP.
- Non-Special "Unit survives with 1 HP" effects have priority over specials such as Miracle, however they only trigger once per combat.
- The Special cooldown count of Specials such as Miracle are unaffected by non-Special "Unit survives with 1 HP" effects.
- Virtuous Tyrfing only stacks with Special skills such as Miracle.
