Weapon: Icon Class Red Sword Raijinto is Ryoma's weapon by default and is one of the best weapons in the game, for it has Distant Counter built into it. It is also integral to this build because it allows him to counter all attacks while still amassing special charge from Steady Breath. Being able to counter at all ranges ensures that he will also be always able to activate his special when it is ready.

Assist Skill: Skilliconassist Reposition is an excellent assist skill for many units and Ryoma is no exclusion to this. Reposition allows for additional maneuverability in any team. For example, he could reposition an ally behind him and then become a powerful wall for that ally thanks to his equipped Steady Breath.

Special: Skilliconspecial Moonbow is chosen for its low charge time and damage boost. When an enemy attacks Ryoma, Steady Breath will push the cooldown from 2 -> 0, meaning Ryoma immediately retaliates with a Moonbow attack proc.

A Skill: Steady Breath Steady Breath is by far the most important element to this build. Just about every other skill in this build is geared towards coordinating with Steady Breath. This skill not only grants Ryoma extra bulk while he's under attack but essentially supercharges his special. This skill permits him to activate Moonbow immediately after the enemy's first attack. When under attack, Ryoma recieves +4 defense, and this defense buff contributes to the damage done by his special (and this is not including any buffs from teammates).

B Skill: Quick Riposte 3 Quick Riposte 3 provides an extra element of synergy to this Steady Breath build by enhancing his dangerous presence during the enemy phase. Coupled with the Raijinto, he will always double units that attack him, regardless of both range and speed, given that he is within a healthy HP threshold.

C Skill: Hone Spd 3 Hone Spd 3 is what Ryoma comes with naturally, so it's an option for his C skill. His allies could appreciate a Spd buff, but this slot is ultimately versatile. There are not many skills that can help this build directly, so any skills that could help Ryoma's surrounding teammates would be advisable for this slot, like his natural Hone Spd, but other buffs can be used if needed.

Sacred Seal: This slot is also relatively versatile in terms of what would be optimal. A good defensive example would include Distant Def 3 Distant Def 3 for instance.

This build makes use of Fury 3 Fury 3 to boost Ryoma's already high Atk and Spd as well as giving a small boost to his average Def and Res. This gives him the flexibility to be either an offensive or defensive threat with more strength to initiate and defeat enemies as well as the defenses to take a hit and counter with Icon Class Red Sword Raijinto.

Fury's after battle damage also allows Ryoma to eventually get into Vantage 3 Vantage 3 range where he can proceed to Vantage kill enemies that try to initiate on him. If Ryoma can't OHKO Vantage counter the enemy though, the extra defenses on Fury also give him a little extra breathing room to make sure he doesn't get killed by the enemy's counterattack. Triangle Adept 3 Triangle Adept 3 is used as a tech option to better deal with all variants of Hector without relying on Moonbow and also as a way to better handle green mages. This also leaves Ryoma at healthier levels of HP if he needs to take care of additional units.

Other alternative B passive options may also be used dependent on the meta or if a player finds themselves struggling against specific cases:

  • Swordbreaker 3 Swordbreaker 3 - This is not only an offensive option to double other Sword users, but also as a way to prevent being doubled by other Sword users who may run Swordbreaker.
  • Quick Riposte 3 Quick Riposte 3 - Niche option if fate gives you a -Spd Ryoma or to build a pure enemy phase Ryoma. Allows Ryoma to double all enemies regardless of Speed. Draconic Aura should be used over Moonbow in this case as Moonbow will proc on the second QR hit. Ryoma will typically already defeat his opponent on the second hit, so having his Special charged for the next hit is more ideal.

For C passive, taking into consideration SP costs, Ryoma's default Hone Spd 3 Hone Spd 3 skill will suffice; however, this can easily be replaced by any other C passive that a team may need.

Another flexible pick is Ryoma's Assist. Again, this depends on team composition and player preference. Positioning skills such as Skilliconassist Reposition are powerful options to provide more team flexibility.

Finally, the build chooses Skilliconspecial Moonbow for its low charge time, meaning more procs during a match. Other alternatives include Skilliconspecial Draconic Aura to make use of Ryoma's high Atk stat if a player finds the extra charge cost isn't a hindrance and would like a more powerful Special.
