Stats: 55/48/13/59/39. These are insane, Surtr is terrifying. If you consider summoner support it gets even scarier since he can reach both 60/50/15/61/41 which is disgusting. The only bad thing is that the attack is lower than i would like but Surtr's Menace makes up for it. With bold fighter and Beach Banner+, you will kill pretty much anything you encounter. I'm not sure if this is the highest Bst. or even Def. but it has to be pretty close.

DescriptionWikitext

Picture this... you actually managed to summon the antagonist of Book II himself. You really don't need much to tap into Surtr's full potential; just a Distant Defence 3 Seal. But... I'll reiterate again.

The best boons for this build is +Atk and +Res. This is to ensure that Surtr can handle against Magic units in the battlefield and maximize power on his single hit in combat. As Steady Stance 4 Steady Stance 4 adds a whooping +8 Defense in enemy attacks, it is fine if there isn't a +Def boon. Given his high base Attack and Icon Class Green Axe Sinmara's Damage Ability, a -Spd bane is acceptable as the build goes around Wary Fighter 3 Wary Fighter 3 as a safeguard against multiple strikes from the enemy.

Icon Class Green Axe Sinmara... Deals 20 Damage flat to all enemies within 2 spaces at the start of the turn. This weapon is bound to Surtr. NO replacements.

Assist: Skilliconassist Pivot is a quintessential movement skill for tanks, given their slow movements. Alternatively, Skilliconassist Swap can be used in tighter spaces.

Special: These specials are meant for Surtr. High base Defense + Steady Stance 4 Steady Stance 4/Surtrs Menace Surtr's Menace/any Defense buffs = Devastating additional damage. Skilliconspecial Bonfire triggers more often while Skilliconspecial Ignis utterly decimates enemies. Take your pick.

A Passive: Steady Stance 4 Steady Stance 4 can be a nightmare for physical attacks. Along with Surtr's high Defense, it adds on more bulk and denies that 1 cooldown charge they might need. It's really the only A passive he needs. Embrace your end...

B Passive: Wary Fighter 3 Wary Fighter 3 is simple. Neither you nor the enemy can double attack (save Weapons that allow double attacks when foes initiate attacks), given that Surtr is at 50% HP or higher. How pitiful...

C Passive: Surtrs Menace Surtr's Menace works in tandem with Icon Class Green Axe Sinmara. Simply... along with 20 flat damage, each enemy struck will suffer -4 to all stats while Surtr's gains +4 to all stats. In basis... if you want to take down Surtr, you'll have to be more creative. The flames..

Seal: Finally, top it off with a Distant Def 3 Distant Def 3 seal and you're good to go. It grants +6 Defense/Resistance against ranged foes attacking you. Archers and Daggers don't stand a chance... even the best of Mages won't manage to one-shot him. Burn in the flames of Múspell!

DescriptionWikitext

This build cannot distant counter, however it will take nearly no damage from any physical attacks with 51 defense at a neutral iv. The goal is to get Surtr in close, and then smash. Unless you're fighting an anti-armor red unit, Ignis will destroy any melee attackers. For magic, Surtr's res is alright. But we account for his low speed with the deflect magic seal. With his typical 33 res and 50 health he is almost certainly not going to be OSKOed, and we mitigate his slow speed by nerfing the second attack. Bonfire is prefered to Ignis only if you're fighting ranged people more often, so you can reliably proc it. This is typical only at lower arena levels though.

DescriptionWikitext

Today, we've decided we never want to worry about a single melee unit ever again. The basic idea is to go as ridiculous with stacking & weaponizing Surtr's incredible Def stat.

First of all, a +Def -Spd nature works best because we don't need speed in the slightest and defense is a superboon, bringing him up to a base of 44 Def. While Sinmara works perfectly fine, a Wo Gun with a Def refine will be more suitable for our purposes. A Slaying Axe can also be used if desired, however I would recommend a different special if you do. The choice of special is timed around the opponent attacking twice (at 13 speed with a superbane, pretty likely) and you getting to attack twice as well, with Vengeful Fighter adding it's own special increase to guarantee your second attack will unleash the special. Thus, Ignis for Wo Gun, Aether for Slaying Axe.

Steady Stance 4 works perfectly fine as is, as not only do you get a massive defense boost, you also stop even Bold fighters from getting their specials off. Vengeful Fighter is used to guarantee we double, and to speed up our own Special gain. Even Def Wave is chosen for self-sustaining buffs, but can be easily changed out if you can support him. Close Def in seal slot not only adds more defense, but also gives him some extra protection against dragons.

With these skills, his regular Defense stat will be 48, or 54 on even turns with Even Def Wave. When Steady Stance and Close Def are added in, this jumps to 68. When proccing Ignis with a Wo Gun, Surtr will do 64 damage, on top of whatever his base damage is.

Even if his attack was incredibly low and can't do anything to his opponent, the special will be MORE THAN ENOUGH to knock out ANYTHING IN THE GAME.

Just watch the whole world burn up at his feet.

DescriptionWikitext

Overview: Surtr is the powerful and sinister tyrant from Book II and he's what I expected, an extremely powerful enemy phase unit that punished you really hard if you couldn't kill him in the turn you attacked him. All of his stats, except Spd, are amazing, which makes him a premier armor unit. He is tied with V-Day Hector and Halloween Myrrh for second highest Def in the game with 40 Def. He has the third highest Atk in the game with 39 Atk. He is tied with Effie, V-Day Hector and Draug for fifth highest HP in the game with 50 HP. Also, He has pretty good Res for an armor unit with 33 Res. His mixed defenses allow him to deal with physical and magic foes quite well which not many armor units can do without support.

Weapon - Icon Class Green Axe Sinmara: Surtr's weapon, Icon Class Green Axe Sinmara, is a 16 mt weapon with a +3 to his Def and has the effect where at the start of his turn, if there are any enemy units within 2 spaces of him, they take 20 damage which ignores the enemy units Def and Res, but if they have 20 or less HP, it won't kill them and will leave them with 1 HP. This effect is what makes Surtr terrifying if you don't manage to kill him in one turn.

Assist - Skilliconassist Swap/Pivot: These are the usual assist skills that help armor units move around the map. Skilliconassist Swap is good for maps that have tight spaces. Skilliconassist Pivot is good for more mobility.

Special - Skilliconspecial Glimmer/Ignis: Skilliconspecial Glimmer and Skilliconspecial Ignis are both really good specials for Surtr, it really depends on what you prefer. Skilliconspecial Glimmer has a shorter cooldown and could possibly go off twice during combat, which a foe has to initiate, since he has really low Spd and would get doubled by pretty much every unit in the game. Skilliconspecial Ignis has a longer cooldown but has larger scaling with Def, allows more damage against armor units and will go off from his second attack if a foe initiates combat.

A Passive - Distant Counter Distant Counter: Distant Counter Distant Counter is what makes Surtr able to attack ranged units during the enemy phase.

B Passive - Vengeful Fighter 3 Vengeful Fighter 3: This coveted armor skill allows Surtr to get his special faster and double foes during the enemy phase.

C Passive - Surtrs Menace Surtr's Menace/Flexible: At the beginning of the turn, if there is at least 1 foe within 2 spaces of Surtr, Surtrs Menace Surtr's Menace gives Surtr +4 to all non-HP stats for 1 turn and inflicts -4 to all non-HP stats on foes within 2 spaces of him through their next action. This along with Icon Class Green Axe Sinmara helps Surtr finish off foes who tried to kill him and somehow still lived and especially helps against other armor units. If you don't want to use Surtrs Menace Surtr's Menace, you can use Panic Ploy 3 Panic Ploy 3 since he has high HP if you want to use him in a mixed team. If you want to use him in an armor emblem team, you can give him Armor March 3 Armor March 3, Goad Armor Goad Armor, Ward Armor Ward Armor, Hone Armor Hone Armor or Fortify Armor Fortify Armor depending on what you need for your team.

Sacred Seal - Distant Def 3 Distant Def 3/Close Def 3: Either of these will work equally as well since both help Surtr's great mixed defenses.

DescriptionWikitext

This build is designed to maximize Surtr's mixed phase presence without having to rely on Sinmara's effect. While slightly less effective than his prf, it also means you don't have to deal with positioning issues and can just send him in at any time.

Slaying Axe+ and Ignis are the bread and butter of this build, considering Surtr's sky high Def stat. Anything he initiates on will usually die because of it. If you're still using Sinmara, sub in Bonfire instead for mostly the same results. Surtr's low Speed might be an issue for some units, but he can make use of it to activate his special on enemy phase thanks to his gigantic bulk.

His C skill can be whatever you want. Stick with Surtr's Menace to improve his combat or Armor March 3 to fit him in a more supportive team. Ward Armor is also an option.
